About Velda: Velda earned her BS in Business Administration and her MBA at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Oswego.
Velda joined the UConn Staff in 2004 as a Residence Hall Director in the Department of Residential Life. During her tenure at the University, she served as a Housing Services Specialist (2009-2011), an Interim Assistant Director of Residence Education (2011-2013) and is currently serving as the Program Assistant for the College of Engineering Diversity and Outreach Center (EDOC). Prior to UConn, she worked as an Residence Hall Director at SUNY Oswego, in Oswego New York.
She enjoys working with and advocating for students, she advises the West Indian Student Organization (WISO) and also serves as a mentor-educator. She is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated. She is interested in Social Justice, Multicultural Affairs, and Student Leadership Development. She is the co-initiator of UConn’s Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Day.
Outside of work, Velda enjoys spending time with her partner, daughters, family and friends. She enjoys traveling and learning about different places, people and cultures.
